Donald Trump's horrible, terrible week got worse after the New York Times released three pages of Trump's 1995 tax return this weekend. They show he lost nearly $916 million in a year when the economy was thriving. But, that's another story. He may have used legal loopholes in the tax code to make more money off his loss and avoid paying federal income taxes for the next 18 years. Did he? He won't tell. But, he did note at last week's debate that he would be smart if he did.
Also this hour: Political journalists usually cover two major-party candidates who abide by the rules and standards of the American political system, even if those candidates are divided by competing ideologies. The election of 2016 is different. Journalists seeking to give balanced treatment to both parties in this unconventional race must move to a less comfortable place in order to cover the ideologically extreme campaign of Donald Trump.
Lastly, you've probably never heard of Denise Juneau, the Native American woman who is running as the Democratic candidate for the sole U.S. Congressional seat allocated to the red state of Montana. If she wins, she'll be the first American Indian woman to serve in Congress, the first openly gay person to serve Montana in Congress and the first woman to win a House seat in the state since 1940.
