The Nose: GCB's & Internet Slactivism

http://cptv.vo.llnwd.net/o2/ypmwebcontent/Chion/Colin%20McEnroe%20Show%2003-09-2012.mp3

The Joseph Kony internet meme is racing across our hive mind with a speed and force almost unprecedented, at least for something serious. The video about the Ugandan opposition leaders seems to have had about 35 million views in one day. And the videos and its makers now have the support of Justin Bieber, Barack Obama, P. Diddy, Taylor Swift, Ryan Seacrest and Tim Tebow. So Joseph Kony, your days are numbered.

Barely audible in all that brass are the concerns of people deeply familiar with Uganda, who want us to know that Kony has been out of the country for years, that his forces have dwindled to a sliver of their former size and that Uganda's problems are lot more nuanced than the video lets on. But will any of that matter. We did a show earlier his week on whether objective facts  have any special status.

Today, the Nose will talk about the online world and the illusion that clicking is the same as real action.
