For The Love Of Dogs

http://cptv.vo.llnwd.net/o2/ypmwebcontent/Commodore%20Skahill/Colin%20McEnroe%20Show%2002-21-2012.mp3

Just the other day my 12-year-old mixed breed dog Malcolm, also known as Ralph, had his first ever professional bath and grooming. The groomers were a little wary at first because 12 year old dogs can be set in their ways and because they could see that Ralph is part Chow. The only way we know this is from his tongue, which is mostly the dark purple you find in chow chows, polar bears, giraffes and people who have been eating blueberries. We don't know anything else for sure about Ralph's parentage, but Lab is a very good guess and, fortunately for the groomers, he has all of the good-natured amiability of a lab and none of the edginess of a chow. (I'm going to get emails from chow fanciers, I realize.)

This is some of the fun and mystery of a mixed breed dog. We're showcasing mutts today on our Westminster Mixed Breed Dog Show, but we're also exploring the world of purebread dog shows and an odd political movement.
