Connecticut Governor Dannel Malloy will be on hand when President Barack Obama officially announces his executive action requiring all gun sellers to register as dealers, and other measures to curb gun violence.
Malloy, an outspoken proponent of stricter gun laws, is expected to be joined at Tuesday's White House event by U.S. Rep. Elizabeth Esty. Esty's district includes Newtown, the site of the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre.
Obama has been looking for ways to work around a Republican-led Congress that has blocked his earlier efforts to tighten gun laws in the wake of mass shootings.
On Monday, Esty and Connecticut Senators Richard Blumenthal and Chris Murphy were among a group of federal lawmakers who met with Obama and were briefed on the details of his executive order.
