Today the president was in New York to meet with 911 families and responders. In this hour we look at the renewed debate on torture to extract evidence, and at President Obama's decision not to release the bin Laden death photos. Plus, Pakistan...what do its nuclear bombs have to do with our administration's refusal to abandon that country...even as we wonder, what they knew and when they knew it.

Today, a special edition of the show: A post mortem on the bin Laden post mortem, a look at the minds and mindsets behind the story.

We start with a discussion on the mass psychology behind reactions to bin Laden's death—your reactions, our reactions… everyone's reactions.

Then we'll talk to the first chief of the CIA's bin Laden task force about the mind of the man—Osama bin Laden, himself.

And finally, NPR's media correspondent David Folkenflik joins us to discuss the media's mindset during and following a story like this one.

Children who sleep with fumes from water-based paints and solvents are two to four times more likely to suffer allergies or asthma, according to a new scientific study. Swedish and U.S. scientists measured the compounds - propylene glycol and glycol ethers - in the bedroom air of 400 toddlers and preschoolers, and discovered that the exposed children had substantially higher rates of asthma, stuffy noses and eczema. The irony is that these compunds are supposed to be healthier than the old, high-polluting, oil-based paints and solvents.

PEZ was first marketed as a compressed peppermint candy over 83 years ago in Vienna, Austria. The name PEZ was derived from the German word for peppermint... PfeffErminZ. Today, over 3 billion PEZ Candies are consumed annually in the U.S.A. alone.

Pop: How Graphic Design Shapes Popular Culture
“Pop culture is often maligned as fleeting, but history shows that sometimes what is pop in one culture has time-honored resonance in later ones. This book is an attempt to show that pop culture, especially as seen through the lenses of design, illustration, satiric and political art (and other things), is integral to a broader understanding of who we are and where we are going.”—Steven Heller, from the Introduction

You might be able to construct an entire dining room table from the many books about actress Elizabeth Taylor.

This new one is intriguing because it explores how she knowingly or unknowingly created the culture of celebrity that we have today.

Elizabeth Taylor declared unheard of independence from the studio system that every noteworthy actor was tied to, for good and bad results.
