Tuesday was Women's Policy Day at the State Capitol.
The event, hosted by the Connecticut Permanent Commission on the Status of Women and five women's advocacy groups, highlighted public policy issues facing women this upcoming legislative session, and also served as a crash course on how to become an effective advocate for women's issues. Anna Doroghazi is public policy director for the Connecticut Sexual Assault Crisis Services, one of the sponsors of the event:
"It's more about how do you actually show up? How do you use the space of the Legislative Office Building and the Capitol to be involved in this legislative process?" said Doroghazi. "I think there are incredible opportunities for every single one of us to go to the State Capitol and exercise our rights as citizens and I think that any day when people can learn how to do that and be involved in the process is a great day."
Lt. Governor Nancy Wyman and Secretary of the State Denise Merrill attended today's event.
State Healthcare advocate Victoria Veltri was also on hand for a look at how Women's health will be affected as the various provisions of the federal Affordable Care Act kicks in.
