Both socially and politically, blacks are the least trusting racial group in the U.S.
So says UConn political science professor Shayla Nunnally who’s writtena new book exploring “Trust in Black America” - She says the African American legacy of experiencing racial discrimination makes them distant from and distrustful of the American political system, its institutions, and its politicians.
Of course, in this political season, we’ve seen several high-profile examples ofwhite politiciansspeakingabout the “black experience” in ways that don’t exactly build more “trust.”
Nunnally thinks that despite the election of a black president - we’re not close to a “post-racial” America - especially in politics.
We’ll also talk with a Connecticut College Professor whose award-winning book profiles a civil rights pioneer.
