Today's show started with the fact that Tony Danza was available and willing to talk to us.
Tony Danza is one of those people who has been around long enough so that several generations have separate reasons for getting excited about him. There's "Taxi" and "Who's the Boss." But he's also an internet meme in a way that's very difficult to explain.
When he his daytime talk show was canceled, Danza started to think about teaching. He was on the verge of turning sixty. His marriage had dissolved. It was one of those times when change is palpably in the air. And teaching had long been in the back of his mind. What happened from there ... well, he explains in today's show.
But booking Danza as a guest made me think about my own deep, deep love for his first show "Taxi." And that, in turn, made me think about how and why we fixate on our early pop culture loves. And that's the other part of this show.
