The Connecticut State Police spokesman will be leaving the position after three months to return to Troop C in Tolland.
Sgt. Shane Hassett said Monday that he requested the transfer back to Troop C last week so he can spend more time with his family. He said the 24/7 nature of the spokesman's job wasn't a good fit for him at this point in his 25-year career with state police.
Hassett said his last day as spokesman will be July 9. Trooper 1st Class Kelly Grant will handle the public information officer duties as state police decide on a new spokesperson.
Hassett replaced longtime spokesman Lt. J. Paul Vance in March. Vance was transferred to the traffic division, with officials only saying the department was going in a "different direction."
