After a rough start to his reelection campaign, Hartford Mayor Pedro Segarra is again staffing up his effort with new people.  One comes from within his administration, the other is a former television reporter.

Segarra announced Monday that Juan Figueroa, his chief of staff, is taking a leave of absence from his work at city hall as of April 10 to chair the mayor's campaign.  He also announced that former Fox CT reporter Shelly Sindland will be his communications director.

Segarra called Figueroa a "lifelong advocate" of the city.  He said Sindland has "deep connections" to Hartford.

The mayor is facing several challengers from within his own party.

Jeff Cohen started in newspapers in 2001 and joined Connecticut Public in 2010, where he worked as a reporter and fill-in host. In 2017, he was named news director. Then, in 2022, he became a senior enterprise reporter.
