The Voice of ?America is a U.S.- funded and independent source of news that airs in societies that don't have a free press. Last week, Congress decided to shift oversight from an independent board to one person chosen by the president. President Obama embraced the shift from an unwieldy part-time advisory board to a professional CEO. Do we trust Donald Trump, a man who has threatened to change libel laws to better control the U.S. press, with this responsibility?
Also this hour: Zsa Zsa Gabor died this morning at ninety-nine years old. Most of Americans under a certain age - around sixty - don't really know who she is or why we need to mark her death. Outside of acting in a few movies and television shows, her real contribution was as the mother of the concept of "career-free celebrity." Paris and Kim could be seen as her children.
Lastly, Ivanka Trump and husband Jared Kushner are shopping for a Modern Orthodox community in Washington. They're currently looking at a synagogue that attracts Washington's political elite. It's not going to be easy siting next to some of the same people protesting Donald Trump's presidency.
