Former Governor Lowell Weicker says the Republican Party no longer embraces the ideals of prudent financial governance and social consciencethat once defined them.
Bipartisan and moderate leaders like Jacob Javits and Alan Simpson, have been replaced by ideologically-driven Republicans who increasingly isolate themselves from the people they govern. They alienate women, blacks, Hispanics, and the disabled, and seem more interested in obstruction than putting forth solutions.
Donald Trump is the standard-bearer of the Republican Party in this year's presidential race. Weicker says this may be just dessert for a party that has made itself irrelevant to the welfare of the country.
Next, the random offhand comment is never mean or intentional. Yet, it grows and festers in our thoughts and toys with our psychological health. We all know what it feels like. For me, it was the high school crush who said I was lucky not to have braces but, was it because my parents couldn't afford them? My smile has never recovered.
Also this hour:former Atlanta Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez was fired last weekafter leading his team to a bad start this season. His departure leaves no Latino managers left in the MLB. Yet, thirty-percent of players are Latino. The record on women in the MLB is not much better.
