Scientists and science enthusiasts will stage a gathering in Hartford on Earth Day as part of the national "March for Science" event.
The National Mall in Washington, D.C. will host the flagship march. Organizers said the marches come at a time of attacks on research budgets and evidence-based science.
Harrison Hayward, a medical student, is one of the organizers of a satellite event planned for Hartford.
"We're here to try to pull science away from this partisan divide that it's heading toward -- and to celebrate it as a unifying entity," Hayward said.
Taking place right next to the Connecticut Science Center, Hayward said the gathering will feature speakers, exhibits from state science organizations, and a local science fair. There will also be a voter registration booth.
"Our goal is to take these people who are science enthusiasts and get them registered to vote so they can become an active part of the voting people in America," Hayward said.
Hartford's march will be at the Mortensen Riverfront Plaza from noon to 3:00 pm on Saturday.
