Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree Is Connecticut Born and Raised

If you visit Rockefeller Center this holiday season, you can look up in awe at a New York transplant from Connecticut. The iconic Christmas tree will be cut down in Shelton later today, and shipped to New York City by tractor-trailer, according to the Associated Press.

The tree is an 80-foot Norway spruce. It's the second Rockefeller Center Christmas tree to come from Shelton in the last six years. Police will guard the tree until authorized tree-cutters arrive.

Mayor Mark Lauretti called this honor a big deal for Shelton, which was named "the best affordable suburb in Connecticut," by Bloomberg Businessweek in 2009 and 2010.

The tree-lighting ceremony is scheduled for December 4. The tree will remain on display until January 7. If you want to see the tree at its finest, though, go see it as early as you can. It starts looking pretty sad by New Year's Day.
