Miles Rapoport, former state politician, has been named the new leader of national political watchdog group.
Rapoport will run Common Cause as of March. Common Cause describes itself as a non-partisan, non-profit organization with more than 400,000 across the country.
Rapoport was a Democratic state representative from West Hartford for ten years before serving as Secretary of the State. He is currently president of Demos, a New York-based public policy organization.
During an appearance on WNPR's Where We Live, Rapoport said Common Cause has been pivotal in campaign finance and filibuster reform. The organization has also been active in voting rights. "It's trying to make our democracy as vibrant, as inclusive, as accessible, as transparent as I possibly can," he said, "and I think they've done a great job with it. I'm excited to be joining them."
Rapoport replaces Bob Edgar, who died suddenly last April after serving six years as the organization's president.
