Across America, low-income, first generation college students are not graduating at the same rate as some of their wealthier peers. Coming up, we take a closer look at this trend with WAMU reporter Kavitha Cardoza. Her documentary is called “Lower Income, Higher Ed."

But first, "Teaching Teachers," a new American RadioWorks documentary, explores another phenomenon happening within our nation’s education system. Teachers aren’t being trained as effectively as they could or should be. We consider why this is and what it would take to improve America’s teacher training system.

GUESTS:

  • Emily Hanford - Education correspondent with American RadioWorks
  • Kavitha Cardoza - Education reporter for WAMU
