Mohegans Launch Third Restaurant Venture

Jersey Mike's Subs

Connecticut’s casinos continue to diversify as gaming revenues decline. The Mohegan Tribe said it's partnering with Jersey Mike’s Subs to open a planned ten sandwich shops.

The partnership said it's actively seeking sites in Rhode Island and southern Massachusetts for its first two restaurants.

Jersey Mike’s already owns more than 1,000 sub shops around the country. This is the Mohegan’s third restaurant venture — they’re already partnering with Arooga’s Grille House and Smashburger.

Call for More Fuel Cells

An industry group wants to see Connecticut increase its power generation from fuel cells six-fold over the next ten years.

The Northeast Electrochemical Energy Storage Cluster said a greater concentration on fuel cells would help meet the projected increase in demand for power, while contributing to energy efficiency and reductions in greenhouse gases. There are currently 28 megawatts of fuel cell generation deployed in Connecticut, according to the group.

UTC's Hayes Looking Overseas

United Technologies new CEO, Greg Hayes, said he’s eyeing overseas acquisitions.

Hayes said he wants to invest some of the company’s money that’s currently held outside the U.S., what he called "trapped cash," in making large purchases.

Hayes told a conference he’s focused on larger scale acquisitions, in the range of $5 billion or more.
