Voters in Milford, Massachusetts have rejected plans by Foxwoods to build a billion-dollar resort casino in the town.
The ballot was decisive, with 65 percent voting against the proposal. Foxwoods issued a statement saying it respects the choice made by the town.
If it had gained the support of its host community, Foxwoods would have bid for one of three casino licenses that will be issued by the state of Massachusetts next year.
Mohegan Sun's bid to build a casino in Palmer was also voted down by residents, but that vote was much closer and will go to a recount later this month.
