Have you wondered what work is like for the producer of a reality television show? Rebecca Hertz, based in Los Angeles, has worked on a number of shows, and to hear her describe it, sometimes the job is pretty harrowing.
Listen below to a 2013 interview where Hertz tells WNPR's Colin McEnroe about the ways she manipulates her subjects psychologically:
Today, Hertz has moved on. She works as a supervising producer on NBC's "America's Got Talent." "I am now at a stage in my career where I can pick the shows that I work on," she said. "I no longer have to work on shows that I know going in are going to make me feel like an evil monster, which is really great ... but those shows are still there and I still get asked to do them all the time."
