Generations of adolescent girls have been drawn to the books of Judy Blume. Books like Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret, Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing, and Blubber dealt with issues other authors of the genre were afraid to tackle. Judy Blume has also written adult novels. In the 1980s and 90s Blume found herself the target of censorship and book bans by conservative groups for the controversial issues in those books.
Judy Blume will be in Hartford Thursday Night to deliver the Mark Twain House and Museum's Clemens Lecture at the University of Hartford's Lincoln Theater.
You can find more information about her visit here.
We recently spoke with Judy Blume about her books, and her battles with censorship. Just like Mark Twain, Blume is one of the most highly censored authors in literature.
