Insurance brokers are concerned that they may no longer get commissions for business they sell on the state’s healthcare exchange, Access Health CT.
Just two insurers, Anthem and Connecticare, will write individual plans through the exchange next year, after the failure of non-profit coop insurer Healthy CT.
Exchange CEO Jim Wadleigh told a meeting of the board this morning that he doesn’t yet know if they’ll continue to use brokers to sell business.
“We have worked extremely hard to build a strong working relationship with all of our brokers,” he said, “understanding that they are the only resource consumers have to help them pick the best plan for their needs. Access Health is proactively preparing our organization to face this change if it happens.”
Wadleigh said that if brokers do drop out of the system, Access Health CT may hire more staff to help advise exchange customers.
