We live in a post-"The Gong Show" world. Any TV that you've ever heard anyone use the word "Dada" to describe -- David Letterman's entire career, for instance -- owes something to Chuck Barris's creation.
(This very radio show, in fact, might owe certain things to "The Gong Show.") And, of course, there're "American Idol" and "America's Got Talent" and even, to an extent, "Dancing with the Stars."
Thing is, we're in a mid-"The Gong Show" world too, as ABC just rebooted the series last week. And with Tommy Maitland as the host, we're apparently in a post-Jiminy Glick world too.
Next: Mattel released a new line of Ken dolls this month - or several Ken dolls - to make Ken look more like real men instead of the white, sculpted and kind of boring Ken that's been around since 1961. Mattel says sales have been dropping. I guess the market is looking for something different.
At the last minute: We couldn't resist spending a few minutes on the ongoing feud between President Trump and MSNBC anchors, Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzesinski. The current fight is spilling into its second day. You'd think the president had nothing better to do.
