Democrat Governor Dannel Malloy took the oath of office for a second term on Wednesday, which also marked the opening day of this year's General Assembly session.
Malloy was sworn in by his long-time friend, Supreme Court Justice Andrew McDonald, and he was surrounded by his wife, Cathy, and their three sons.

Earlier in the day, Malloy swore in Lt. Governor Nancy Wyman.

After Wyman's swearing-in ceremony, both Malloy and Wyman braved frigid temperatures, along with the other constitutional officers, in the traditional inaugural parade. The event began at the Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Arch in downtown Hartford, and ended at the state armory, where Malloy was sworn in.

Later in the afternoon, preparations were made for Malloy to give his State of the State Address to state lawmakers, laying out his vision for the new legislative session.

The day was to be capped off with an inaugural ball, planned to take place at the Connecticut Convention Center in Hartford.
