Governor Dannel Malloy and Lt. Governor Nancy Wyman declared victory in the Connecticut governor's race on Wednesday at the state Capitol.
To chants of "four more years!" Wyman thanked supporters for getting out the vote and helping to get her team into office for another four years. Malloy also thanked supporters including various elected officials, congratulated Elizabeth Esty on her congressional win, and added that the press conference couldn't go on for another four years.
"Elections are about the future," Malloy said. "I'm really revved up about the next four years. If you're wondering about what we intend to do, we've put out plans that spell out what we intend to get done. We will have, I assure you, a full legislative agenda ready to go by January 7. I don't sit around a whole lot."
Malloy took questions from reporters about his first priorities. "It's going to be a busy month of reports and the like," he said, about coming budget proceedings, with the ultimate goal being growth of the state's economy.
"We had four really tough years," Malloy said. "The reality is I won this office with substantially more votes -- a larger plurality, actually a majority -- than I had previously. I didn't have those four years ago, and I'm happy with that."
Malloy said he was pleased to have the support of President Barack Obama during election season, and mentioned Obama's call to WNPR's The Colin McEnroe Show on Tuesday in an attempt to encourage Hartford voters to go to the polls.
