A new federal transportation funding bill recently signed by President Barack Obama will provide Connecticut with an extra $310 million in financial aid over the next five years.
The Hartford Courant reportedthe bill will disburse approximately $300 billion in funding nationally over a five-year period for highway and bridge maintenance projects as well as general transit aid.
Officials said Connecticut's share over that period would be a total amount of about $3.5 billion, which is roughly $60 million a year more in federal funding than the state has been receiving.
The bipartisan bill passed the House and Senate last week.
Senator Richard Blumenthal said the country's backlog of proposals to address "decaying, decrepit roads and bridges" was what drove bipartisan support for the bill.
