Election 2014: The Voice of America's Latino Voters

santiagostudio.com
Maria Hinojosa, host of NPR's Latino USA.

Latino voters are overwhelmingly more likely to support Democratic candidates than Republicans, but that has been changing in recent years. The national GOP has talked a lot about being more “inclusive”, even as voter ID laws in places like Texas seem aimed squarely at reducing the number of Latinos able to vote.

In Connecticut, it seems candidates have done very little to court Latino voters -- leading us to question how big an impact this group will have on Tuesday's outcome.

This hour, we sit down with a panel of news experts and reporters from the Latino community to find out more about the issues concerning Latino voters today, and how political candidates have addressed these issues in their campaigns.

GUESTS:

  • Maria Hinojosa - Award-winning journalist and host of NPR’s Latino USA
  • Hugo Balta - Diversity and Inclusion Specialist; former president of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists
  • Diane Alverio - Publisher of CT Latino News
  • Pablo Colon - Manages Radio Cumbre Broadcasting, a Spanish language radio station in the Bridgeport area
  • Emanuela Leaf - Editor and partner of the Tribuna Newspaper, a trilingual publication based in Danbury
