Disclosure of Chemicals Sought After Bridgeport Factory Fire

The smoldering remains of the Rowayton Trading Company factory warehouse building at 2201-2215 Seaview Avenue in Bridgeport on September 12.

Bridgeport officials are calling for more disclosure of industrial chemicals following the release of chemicals in a factory fire.

The Connecticut Post reports Councilwomen Lydia Martinez and Milta Feliciano, who represent the area, said they had no information.

The fire that burned for hours from September 11 to 12 also may have exposed problems in life-saving information to emergency responders. City officials say firefighters arrived at 6:45 pm, but did not have necessary information about hazardous substances until about 9:30 pm.

The five-alarm blaze blew the lids off pigments, fragrance oils, dyes and other materials at the Rowayton Trading Company. Rowayton's owner did not respond to requests by the newspaper for comment.

An investigation will focus on whether Rowayton shared all information required under state and federal laws.
