The chairman of the Connecticut Republican Party says the state GOP plans to raise and spend $500,000 to try and win control of the General Assembly.
Currently, Democrats hold majorities in the House of Representatives and Senate. Democrats have a 21-15 advantage in the Senate and an 87-64 majority in the House.
The next state election will be held in 2016.
GOP Chairman Jerry Labriola Jr. said Monday the new "Legislative Majority Trust" will target 20 incumbent House Democrats five Senate Democrats. The initial target list includes Senate Majority Leader Robert Duff, a Democrat from Norwalk.
Labriola pointed to passage of a two-year, $40.3 billion budget agreement reached between Democratic leaders and Democratic Gov. Dannel P. Malloy, which raises a variety of taxes, as a reason for more GOP-held seats.
