The Litchfield Jazz Festival is among the organizations receiving NEA grants.

Several performing arts and literary publications in Connecticut have been awarded grants from the National Endowment for the Arts, totaling $290,000.

"Whether it is in the classroom, on the street, or in our parks, museums and theaters, the arts play a vital role in shaping our understanding of who we are as a community," the state's congressional delegation said in a statement. "Connecticut is a better place because of the outstanding talent, commitment and creativity of our artists."

Nationwide, the NEA announced 1,116 grants worth more than $29 million.
