Casino developers have upped the ante in a bid to secure support from the city of Albany.
A day after it was disclosed Albany would get $10 million dollars stretched over 10 years in exchange for supporting the Rensselaer casino project, the Times Union revealed that that proposal was made in response to a $7 million offer from developers of the Capital View Casino and Resort in East Greenbush. Some Albany Common Council members were stunned when they heard of the offers. One member says the legislators knew deals were brewing, but had no details. The group awaits word from Mayor Kathy Sheehan as to what comes next. Some lawmakers favor supporting both deals while others suggest selecting just one. The mayor’s office has not returned calls for comment. The Capital Region stands to get one casino license. Four projects are still alive.
