Bridgeport Police Chief Joseph Gaudett has accepted a new position as emergency communications consultant in the Bridgeport Emergency Operations Center.
Mayor Joe Ganim made the announcement Monday. He said the change will allow the city to move the reorganization of the police department forward under new leadership.
Gaudett will resign the police chief's position he's had since 2009 and begin his new job in the near future. He's a 33-year police department veteran.
He'll have authority over the Office of Emergency Management and the Communications Division and ultimately be responsible for consolidating them. Gaudett also will focus on improving response time to public safety emergencies, pursuing federal and state grants and training.
He'll earn $125,000 a year for three years. His contract can be renewed twice in one-year increments.
