Blumenthal Leading Effort To File Suit Against Trump

Connecticut U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal says a recently filed federal lawsuit against President Donald Trump is important because the American people deserve to know that the president is putting the national interests before his own personal financial interests.

Blumenthal led the effort to file the suit, which charges Trump with violating the U.S. Constitution by accepting payments and benefits from foreign governments.

"The Trump organization, a vast financial empire in 20 countries through 500 companies, is accepting payments and benefits from foreign governments in flagrant and blatant violation of the United States Constitution, " said Blumenthal.

Watch the press conference:

Almost 200 members of Congress joined together to engage in the legal action – the largest of its kind against a sitting president.

Trump's defenders say he has adequately distanced himself from his companies - and if the president has violated the Constitution, it's up to Congress and not the courts to take action.
