Earlier this week a report by the Associated Press identified over 40 ethically questionable medical experiments that were conducted for decades in the 20th century. Many of the subjects in these experiments were mental patients, prisoners, and chronically ill patients. Included in the report was an experiment conducted din Connecticut in the mid 1940’s. Dr. W. Paul Havens, a noted hepatitis expert working at the Yale School of Medicine, infested 21 mental patients form Connecticut with a strain of hepatitis. We’re joined today by Dr. Stephen, Latham, he’s Deputy Director of Yale’s Interdisciplinary Center for Bioethics.
