Back9Network Suspends Operations Over Capital "Shortfall"

Back9Network
The set for Back9Network.

The Back9Network, a cable and Internet-based network devoted to golfing that opened in Hartford with state assistance nearly two years ago, has suspended operations. Without elaborating Monday, Back9 cited a "temporary shortfall in capital."

The network said it is planning the next steps and will continue to seek long-term operating capital.

Back9 opened a digital center in Hartford in 2013 and employed 25 workers with promises to create another 25 jobs. Governor Dannel Malloy said in 2012 the project was expected to create hundreds of jobs and "breathe new life" into Hartford.

State officials announced about $5 million in loans and grants for marketing, equipment, job creation, and training. Back9Network matched one loan with $5 million.

Connecticut's economic development department said Monday Back9 is current on loan payments, but it will protect state investments if necessary.
