Applications for President Obama’s new deferred action immigration policy for young people are to be released next week. Officials in
Under the deferred action policy announced in June, undocumented immigrants who meet certain eligibility requirements will be considered for relief from deportation.
James Bhandry-Alexander of New Haven Legal Assistance says his agency will serve as an entry point for the many thousands of young people in the region who want to find out if they qualify.
"New Haven Legal Assistance will be a place where potential applicants can go for a free initial screening, a conversation with a member of our staff and help legal assistance there..or a referral to another legal service provider who can help."
"I will be applying once the application comes out."

"I knew all the way that I was going to be undocumented once my visa will expir,e however it didn’t come to reality 'till I became a senior in high school."
Dumet was mistakenly told by his guidance counselor that without a green card, he could not apply to college. A year later, a family member encouraged him to try. He graduated from Western CT State University with a degree in accounting, and says deferred action offers hope to undocumented youth who could not see a future for themselves.
"It is a relief to know that I will be able to work legally, be able to drive without fear of deportation and it will be giving me a social identify."
Applications for deferred action are to be released on August 15.
