The Academy is supposed to nominate the best actors, directors and writers for Hollywood's most prestigious Oscar awards; instead, they see only whites worthy of these lofty levels of achievement this year.
Acclaimed performances in "Straight Outta Compton," "Creed," "Tangerine," and "Beasts of No Nation" prove an abundance of Oscar-worthy talent that will go unrecognized... again. The only difference from last year's snub is the increasing frustration and anger felt by the enduring racism displayed so outwardly since last year.
Sean Penn published a jaw-dropping interview in Rolling Stone this past weekend that he conducted in October with El Chapo, the Mexican drug lord recently re-captured with inadvertent help from Penn and the Mexican actress that captivated the fugitive. Penn said he wants America to recognize its complicity in the drug trade that we condemn. Others think the whole thing plays like a Hollywood gringada.
We also remember the wonderful Alan Rickman.
