Dave Lucas

Dave Lucas is WAMC’s Capital Region Bureau Chief.  Born and raised in Albany, he’s been involved in nearly every aspect of local radio since 1981. Before joining WAMC, Dave was a reporter and anchor at WGY in Schenectady. Prior to that he hosted talk shows on WYJB and WROW, including the 1999 series of overnight radio broadcasts tracking the JonBenet Ramsey murder case with a cast of callers and characters from all over the world via the internet. In 2012, Dave received a Communicator Award of Distinction for his WAMC news story "Fail: The NYS Flood Panel," which explores whether the damage from Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee could have been prevented or at least curbed. Dave began his radio career as a “morning personality” at WABY in Albany.

NYPD Seeks To Engage With 'Twitter School,' Blog

The nation's largest police department is sending its top brass to an in-house "Twitter school" as part of an effort to soften the NYPD's image and engage with the people they serve. 
Every precinct and some special commands have a twitter account. 101 in total.

They're encouraged to send out helpful, pithy messages, and respond directly to the communities they serve.

Governor Cuomo Joins Schenectady Casino Celebration

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today traveled to Schenectady and Sullivan Counties to celebrate the Gaming Facility Location Board's decision regarding the new resort gaming destinations that were selected for each of the regions.

One day after the New York Gaming Commission’s Facility Location Board gave the green light to three casino proposals, the celebration was on in Schenectady today.  At Proctors Theater, officials touted the prospect of continuing Schenectady’s economic renaissance with a gambling windfall.

NY Casino Decision Expected December 17

A decision on where up to four casinos will be located in upstate New York is expected to be announced December 17, the date a board reviewing casino applications is expected to meet for the final time.

New York State Gaming Commission Executive Director Robert Williams announced plans for the meeting Monday during a meeting of the commission.

On Monday, the four Capital Region casino applicants appeared in Albany to present their proposals to the New York State Gaming Facility Location Board.

With gamblers seemingly preferring to visit smaller casinos closer to home, the presentations four developers delivered before the New York State Gaming Commission’s location siting board offered practical mid-size packages.    "We are committed to developing the best site there is in a way that best serves this community, its citizens and its economic goals"

A Tale Of Two Casinos And A City

As established casinos across the Northeast close their doors or administer cost-cutting measures, New York is just getting into the game.  And although it won’t host a casino if its own, Albany has become a key player.

The mantra has been "jobs and the economy," and New York's capital is crossing its fingers, hoping for a windfall should a casino go up in nearby Rensselaer County.
