Newtown Anniversary Special Broadcast: Remembrance, Call In, and Memorial Music

The shootings on December 14, 2012 at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut affected not just the families and friends connected to the school and local community, but everyone in the state. As we remember the events of that day, and consider events that have occurred since, join us for a special live broadcast on the one-year anniversary. Here are some details:

9:00 am - 10:00 am
Remembrance
John Dankosky and Colin McEnroe co-host an hour of reflection and remembrance with in-studio guests. At 9:30 am, we'll pause for the statewide ringing of the bells. We also listen to Patrick Skahill's story about Newtown residents one year later, in a community that has been at least a little bit galvanized by grief.

10:00 am - 12:00 pm
Call-in Special Broadcast
John Dankosky and Colin McEnroe co-host two hours of a special, live call-in broadcast, bringing in voices from around the state. You'll also hear some of our reporters' stories, focusing on different aspects of the impact of the shootings on our community. From the struggle to archive material sent to Newtown, to a look at who counsels the counselors, to changes in the gun industry, you'll hear these stories throughout the week leading to our special broadcast. See a complete list below.

12:00 pm - 1:00 pm
Memorial Music
Ray Hardman hosts an  hour-long music special, featuring performances curated by WNPR staff. It includes some music we've collected, and some we've recorded from memorial concerts -- a fitting, peaceful end to the day's special programming.
